Abstract
There are sex differences regarding the prevalence and course of diseases. Considering the medical treatment from the perspective of sex enables inequalities to be recognized and the treatment to be adapted to the sex-specific requirements. The aim of this article is to highlight the sex-specific characteristics of dialysis patients. Sex differences exist regarding the choice of procedure, the dialysis access, the target value of the dialysis dose as well as the sex-specific mortality. Pregnant dialysis patients, in particular, require an individualized medical care.
